Okay so I've always wanted some Johnny/Meryl fic that takes place on Shadow Moses. Preferably during MGS1 instead of before it, but do what you will.
Meryl sneaked around another corner of the storage building’s basement, and froze as she heard voices. She quickly dropped into a crouch and hid behind a plant as she peeked around to see what was going on.
Three soldiers stood in the hall before her, two anonymous and one without his mask. The maskless soldier was a bit older than her - not by much - with short blond hair. He looked guilty and uncomfortable, and not a little ill.
The two other soldiers were taking turns tearing him a new one, the whole spiel on ‘neglecting your duty’ and ‘allowing hostages to escape’ and the whole shebang.
Finally, they let the blond slink off sneezing, and she heard one of them comment to the other,
“Kid’s not cut out for this. We should have left him in the labs or shot him instead of letting him run around mucking up our plans.”
She waited until they walked away to continue heading to the ladies’ room, but she kept thinking about what that soldier had said, and the look on the blond’s face.
A rookie like her, then, huh? She hoped he made it out of here alive. He didn’t have a Snake on his side, but if he made it out, maybe he could make something of himself, like she was going to.
That would be nice.
